Stars, Stripes & Sewing Nights

There's something about Independence Day that makes me slow down and appreciate the simple things, time with family, evenings spent outdoors, fireworks lighting up the sky and, of course, a little extra time to sew. As America celebrates its 250th birthday this month, I've been thinking about the traditions that bring us together. Around here, one of my favorites is gathering around a table with good friends, colorful fabric and a project that makes you excited to sit down and create.

The retreat house has been filled with those moments lately, and they've reminded me that some of the very best summer memories aren't planned at all. They're made one stitch, one laugh and one conversation at a time. I'm excited to share a few of those moments with you, along with what's coming up at Seamless Getaways!

From World Travels to Sewing Tables

One of my favorite things about Seamless Getaways is getting to know the wonderful people who walk through the door, and Terry is someone many of you may recognize. She's been a frequent retreat guest over the years, and every visit is such a joy.

What makes Terry's story especially fun is that she's also an avid world traveler. She recently returned from an incredible trip to Egypt, and before long, she was right back at Seamless Getaways, quilting with friends. I love that someone can explore some of the world's most remarkable places and still choose to spend a few relaxing days in Forrest, Illinois, doing what they love most. It says so much about the friendships, creativity and sense of community that make retreat weekends so special.

Terry, thank you for continuing to make Seamless Getaways part of your journey. I can't wait to see where your next adventure takes you, and what quilt you'll bring to retreat next!

A Fall Getaway is Waiting

If your group has been talking about "getting away someday," consider this your sign! I currently have openings available September 8–20, and it would be the perfect time to gather your friends for a few days of sewing, laughter and uninterrupted creative time.

Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons at Seamless Getaways, and those dates don't stay open for long. If they've been on your wish list, I'd love to help you reserve them before someone else does.

Birch Street in Full Bloom

I recently spent two wonderful days teaching the Birch Street pattern at Thimbles Quilt Shop, and it was such a joy to watch each project come to life.

One of my favorite things about teaching is seeing how everyone starts with the same pattern, yet every quilt ends up telling a completely different story. Fabric choices, colors and little creative touches made each project uniquely their own. Seeing students encourage one another, share ideas and celebrate each finished piece is always the highlight of every class.

Your Winter Creative Escape

While summer is in full swing, it's never too early to start planning a cozy winter getaway. Join me December 9–11, 2026 for a Winter Inktense & Collage Quilting Retreat and spend three relaxing days immersed in the colorful world of Laura Heine collage quilting. There are only four

openings left!

Whether you're starting a brand-new collage or bringing one you've already begun, this retreat gives you dedicated time to learn, create and enjoy the process without everyday distractions. I'll be there throughout the retreat to answer questions, demonstrate collage techniques and Inktense pencil applications, and help bring your vision to life. As a Certified Laura Heine Instructor with advanced training from Laura Heine herself, I love helping quilters discover just how fun and rewarding collage quilting can be.

Retreat Details

  • December 9–11, 2026

  • $250 per person

  • Includes 3 full days, 2 nights and 4 meals

  • Optional add-on day December 8 and/or December 12 for just $25 per person, per day

Gather your favorite fabrics, settle into a cozy creative space and spend a few winter days doing what you love most!

As always, thank you for making Seamless Getaways feel so much more than a retreat house. It's the friendships, the laughter around the sewing tables and the excitement of watching everyone's projects come to life that make this place so special.

As you celebrate Independence Day with family, friends and maybe even a few fireworks, I hope you also find a little time to slow down, enjoy the season and create something that brings you joy. After all, the best memories (whether they're made around a picnic table or a sewing table) are the ones we share together.

I hope your Independence Day was filled with wonderful memories, your summer is full of creativity, and I have the pleasure of seeing you at a retreat soon!
